Your Satisfaction
Repair and Restoration Services
Routine Maintenance
Our basic service. A proper maintenance schedule will ensure the longevity of any timepiece. Third Coast Clock Service recommends surface cleaning and oiling every 3 years, while most of the major manufacturers recommend having your clock oiled every 1 to 2 years and a complete disassembly and cleaning every 8 to 10 years.
We feel the additional step of surface cleaning at the 3-year mark is an important one. Without surface cleaning, the newly added oil would become contaminated by built-up dirt and old oil.
Standard Movement Service
The answer to most worn-out movements is our standard movement services, sometimes referred to as an overhaul or rebuild. This is a very involved process and can include the following steps:
- Complete disassembly of the movement
- Thorough examination of all components under magnification
- Ultrasonic Cleaning
- Necessary repairs and resurfacing of worn and damaged parts
- Assembly and lubrication
- Testing and Regulation for timekeeping accuracy
Movement Replacement
In many cases we feel our customer (and their clock) is better served with the installation of a new movement rather than repairing the old one. This is especially true in cases where a direct factory replacement is available and for battery operated clocks.
Restoration Services
We have brought timepieces back to their original splendor after incidences of neglect, fire, flood and accidental damage.
Your satisfaction is our goal.
The performance of your timepiece and your satisfaction is our goal. We often test your timepiece for several weeks after servicing it to ensure its proper operation. If we haven't met your expectations, please let us know, we want to make it right!
A Few Disclaimers
While we would love to repair everything that comes across our counter we just can’t do it all.
- We do not perform any repairs to Rhythm®, Small World, Magic Motion Musical Clocks or similar clocks made by Seiko and others.
- Electric clocks. Due to the lack of available parts, we do not repair clocks that plug into the wall. In some cases, only with your permission, we will offer to convert your electric clock to a battery-operated one. The only exception to this is clocks by the Jefferson Electric Clock Company. We will repair clocks such as the Jefferson Golden Hour as long as parts are still available.
- Battery-operated anniversary clocks. We do repair vintage, mechanical anniversary (400 days) clocks but not their battery-operated cousins.
- The Elgin “Time Bomb” anniversary clock. This is the one vintage mechanical anniversary clock we do not repair.
- Alarm clocks. We do not repair vintage wind-up alarm clocks, such as Big Ben or Baby Ben by Westclox.
